Connecting Mogees to your Computer

General Support -

To connect Mogees to your computer you will need an audio interface capable of receiving a 1/4" audio input and a 1/4" audio cable.

Here is an excerpt from our Ableton Tutorial showing how to connect your Mogees and set the appropriate gain:

Why can't I simply plug it into the headphone socket, just as I would when using it on an iPhone? I've been trying this and my computer doesn't recognise it as a device

    Hi Nicolas,
A few models of computers (like Macbook Pros) have TRRS (combined audio in/out) headphone jacks that you can use with Mogees like an iPhone which will work (but the quality of those inputs tend to be quite noisy with a lot of crosstalk interference). We included the adapter as most people wanted to use Mogees with their audio interfaces.

    Hi, thanks for the answer

In my case, I have a Macbook Air that does have one of these combined audio in/out sockets. But when I plug in my Mogees (I have the old model from the original Kickstarter campaign) the computer doesn't seem to detect it at all. I don't see it listed as a device in the audio configuration, and using Usine, the Mogees VST seems to work but I can't set its input to come from the Mogees mic.
Is there a driver I have to install or something else I can do to get my computer to recognise the device as an input?
    Thanks

    Hi Nicolas,

This is actually a limitation of the original Mogees sensors, the impedance value of those sensors is not fully compatible with Macbooks' combined audio jacks. This is something we fixed with the new version. I have got the original ones to work on rare occasion though by having headphones in the Mogees jack and plugging it in and out of the socket many times until I see the system audio preferences change to 'external microphone'.

As it is an audio signal it will not appear as an input device, and there are no drivers - it is simply reading the computers built in line input.

Sure - it would be really helpful if you could take a screen-movie of your setup so we can see at what point there is an issue. You can use something like QuickTime Player (file>new screen recording) and send that to support@mogees.co.uk
